How did you hear about your internship?
I heard about my internship through Professor Michael Lucker in the Film and Digital Media department. During the end of the Spring Semester of 2025, Professor Lucker announced he’d be picking the top 4 students in his Screenwriting class and introducing us to the publishing house he published his first novel through. We didn’t even have to apply, we just had to show up and show out!
What has been the most valuable (or favorite) part of the experience?
In my opinion, the most valuable part of the experience comes from the opportunities and offers after the hard work put in this summer. For example, one opportunity arose where me and the other interns got to help Professor Lucker out with his book signing after the debut of the novel. The next opportunity comes in the form of being able to run their social media as a marketing intern (which fulfills one huge part of my degree). Another opportunity can arise where I may be able to traditionally publish my next novel with Wordeee by Fall 2026. It’s an opportunity I’m looking forward to!
How will this help you in the future? To understand the opportunities this internship has offered me for the future, one needs to understand where my career has led me to thus far! I am a self-published author who enrolled back in school in my 30’s to help me sharpen my professional skills and make some connections in the process. What I’ve gotten from being back in school has far surpassed those goals! I thought I’d have to live my life only ever self-publishing and paying out of pocket for services, but I’ve learned that with the right connections and networking, anyone can make anything happen for themselves. A great education has just been the cherry on top!
