Psychology Major - New Hope Counseling Gainesville, GA

How did you hear about your internship?

I had been planning to do an internship for some time, and through conversations with my advisor and my coordinator in the psychology department, I received a list of possible places. After doing some research, I decided to contact New Hope.

What has been the most valuable (or favorite) part of the experience?

The most valuable part of my internship at New Hope Counseling Center was the opportunity to interact with clients and observe their progress throughout their treatment. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different programs the center offers. It was amazing to see how each program is structured to meet clients' specific needs. I also appreciated the kindness and support of the staff from the beginning. The clinicians and group facilitators were not only knowledgeable but also willing to answer questions and engage me in the learning process. Being part of such a collaborative and compassionate environment made the experience especially meaningful and reaffirmed my passion for working in the mental health field.

How will this help you in the future?

This internship has taught me a lot about how counseling methods function in real life. I've learned a lot about how different forms of interventions are used in groups, especially with Spanish-speaking clients, from watching clinicians and facilitators at New Hope. It has also helped me communicate to clients in both English and Spanish more professionally and with greater confidence. These experiences will be incredibly beneficial as I work to becoming a bilingual mental health psychologist.

Moreover, it has allowed me to build professional relationships and gain insights into my own strengths and areas for growth. I have learned more about how I work best and identified the skills where I excel. This experience has also highlighted opportunities for further development, which will be instrumental as I continue to progress in my career.
