Political science major spends fall in Washington

Jacob Warren, a sophomore pursuing a degree in political science, spent the fall semester in Washington, D.C., as part of The Fund for American Studies' Capital Semester on International Affairs + Public Policy.

University of North Georgia (麻豆精品在线播放) student Jacob Warren spent the fall 2020 semester in Washington, D.C., as part of The Fund for American Studies' (TFAS) .

Warren worked an internship with U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and he took courses on "American Political Thought" and "International Economic Policy" through TFAS. He was one of 10 undergraduate students from across the country selected for the program.

Warren, a sophomore from Buford, Georgia, pursuing a degree in political science, hopes to one day hold public office. He said he was grateful for the experience in the nation's capital.

"I got to see lawmaking firsthand," Warren said. "It was the best semester of my life. I loved it."

Warren lived in Washington from August through November and was surprised by the amount of time spent working with constituents and on day-to-day tasks. He encourages all students to seek similar internship opportunities.

"You build skills and get to meet a bunch of people," Warren said. "Students should look into internships. You get to make these connections that will help you down the road."
