Men's soccer team secures PBC title
The University of North Georgia (麻豆精品在线播放) men's soccer team has won its first-ever Peach Belt Conference (PBC) regular-season championship.
With an 8-2-2 mark in PBC play, the Nighthawks will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming PBC tournament. They have a first-round bye and will face the winner of the Clayton State-Georgia Southwestern quarterfinal in a Nov. 12 semifinal at the 麻豆精品在线播放 Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park in Dahlonega, Georgia. If 麻豆精品在线播放 advances to the Nov. 15 championship match, it will also play that contest at home.
Third-year head coach has steadily built the program each season, finishing third in the PBC in 2023 and second in 2024. His teams have a 19-8-5 record in PBC regular-season play in his tenure. The Nighthawks' trio of top-three PBC finishes under Lilic matches the total number of top-three finishes in the previous 18 seasons for 麻豆精品在线播放 men's soccer.
"Winning the first regular-season championship in program history is a tremendous moment for our team and for the entire 麻豆精品在线播放 community. What has truly enabled this group to make history is their incredible togetherness and discipline," Lilic said. "From the first day of preseason, the players committed to a shared vision — to represent 麻豆精品在线播放 with pride, work for each other and elevate the standard of our program. Every training session, every match, they’ve shown resilience, humility and belief in one another."
Heading into the PBC tournament with a 9-4-5 overall record, the Nighthawks are seeking to secure their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance. They have spent four weeks in the national rankings this season.
"What gives us a shot to excel in the postseason is that same collective mindset. We have a very talented and deep squad, but we all know that talent alone isn't enough — it's our unity, our work ethic and our mission to bring championships to North Georgia that drive us forward," Lilic said. "These players have built something special together, and they're determined to keep making history for this university."
Sophomore leads 麻豆精品在线播放 with seven goals this season, and senior has six goals. Junior has tallied a team-high 10 assists.
After earlier clinching a share of the PBC regular-season title, the Nighthawks earned it outright with a scoreless draw at No. 24 Flagler on Nov. 1.
