We're used to hearing about digital access in Africa as a problem for outsiders to fix. We often hear stories of poverty, gaps, and well-meaning rescue. This session flips that script. Drawing on innovations like Kenya's M-Pesa mobile money, Ushahidi's crisis-mapping, BOSCO Uganda's community-owned solar networks, the Masakhane African-language AI collective, and Nigeria's #EndSARS movement, we'll see how Africans are already building the technologies, infrastructures, and knowledge systems that a just digital future requires (not as passive recipients, but as co-equal innovators). Drawing from lessons from this research, attendees will leave with concrete ways to move from a "digital savior" mindset to everyday acts of digital solidarity, right from where you are! Filmmakers Robyn Hicks & Zahra Irannezhad will discuss the art of editing as discovery in their Â鶹¾«Æ·ÔÚÏß²¥·Å Faculty Undergraduate Summer Engagement (FUSE) supported documentary project on Sybil Rosen.
