The Online Qualifying Exam consists of a 40 to 50 question multiple choice exam covering topics throughout the high school level curriculum with an emphasis on algebra, trig, and geometry. There are also some questions on calculus, and statistics or data science. Younger students who have not had calculus or statistics should still consider competing because those questions are not the majority of the competition, and because underclassmen and upperclassmen are ranked separately.

The on-campus competition consists of a Ciphering (quick, mental math) session, a Creative Problem-Solving session and a Data Science session. These sessions are subject to change based on participant interest.

Registration Fee

There is no registration fee for the qualifying exam, but there is a fee for the on-campus tournament of $15 per student. After the completion of the online qualifying exam, students will receive an invitation to attend the on-campus tournament with instructions on how to pay the registration fee.

Participants under the age of 18 must be supervised by a school sponsor or parent/guardian for the duration of the on-campus tournament. Those not accompanied by a school sponsor or parent/guardian will not be permitted to participate in the on-campus tournament.
