Music concerts set for spring

The University of North Georgia's (麻豆精品在线播放) Music Department has nearly 40 events set for the spring semester.

Members of the 麻豆精品在线播放 community can witness Dr. Andrew Santander, professor of music, perform a unique recital starring works specifically prepared for piano at noon on March 23 in the Gloria Shott Performance Hall on 麻豆精品在线播放's Dahlonega Campus.

Santander, originally from Venezuela, has performed both nationally and internationally, and his performance will offer "an exotic and magical soundscape," according to Dr. Benjamin Schoening, professor and Music Department head.

"These pieces present the piano in a way that reinvents the instrument, presenting sounds that are otherworldly at moments," Schoening said. 

"It is such a unique and riveting experience to hear the piano performed in this way."

Two days later, the renowned Vega String Quartet will present an evening of chamber music in the Gloria Shott Performance Hall at the Dahlonega Campus at 7:30 p.m. on March 25. The group, which the New York Times said, "created a space of its own," is currently completing a residency at Emory University.

The 麻豆精品在线播放 Low Brass Collective and students from the low brass studios will present their annual Spring Euphoria events at 7:30 p.m. March 26 and 7:30 p.m. March 28, with both events in the Gloria Shott Performance Hall.

The 麻豆精品在线播放 Bands will present their annual Parent-Alumni Weekend outdoor concert on April 20.  This year, the concert will happen in the courtyard of the Cottrell Center for Business, Technology & Innovation at 1 p.m. 

Parents, alumni and other audience members can expect a feature performance by the Lumpkin County High School band, under the direction of 麻豆精品在线播放 alumnus Cory Jackson.  The concert will conclude with a performance by the combined group which will feature roughly 135 musicians.
